I am a wife, mother of five, gardener, and fair weather runner.  I have always been passionate about a healthy lifestyle. Through “the birthing years” (5 kids in 8 years) my desire for healthy pregnancies and safe labors intensified. Having experienced a cesarean section, a vaginal birth with an epidural, and three unmedicated births, I am passionate about encouraging and supporting women through their childbirth journey.

I have held childbirth education and doula certification since 2008, originally through Charis Childbirth Services, and additional training through Dona International. This training, which took place at a birth house in Uganda, expanded my passion and concern to see women everywhere have access to safe and holistic birth support.

I received my diploma in nursing from Bon Secours Memorial School of  Nursing in Richmond, Virginia in 2002. The Navy brought my husband and me to Virginia Beach in 2003. Since then, we have had 4 children, in three different hospitals in the Hampton Roads area, all with the help of a labor coach or doula. A number of friends began asking me to be present at their births and it was then that I decided to pursue a formal education in childbirth education and doula training, which I received through Charis Childbirth Services in 2008.

I wish to give other women the support that I so greatly appreciated in my labors. I am passionate about preparing couples in our classes for the journey by replacing their fears with knowledge and eager expectation. I often marvel at how God so wonderfully designed our bodies to carry and give forth life and will forever be in awe of the miracle of birth.
